We've usually seen trainers quoting their sessions as the best. Most of them would be often heard as saying that I am here to share knowledge and not preach.
But how many of them actually succeed in accomplishing the said task?
Though one can always learn the several methods of teaching, there is some element that usually comes from within.
A zeal to train is what creates the difference most of the times.
Success awaits those who internally feel like sharing knowledge. As then you take all possible efforts to give practical examples, share real life situations, answer queries etc.
However this doesn't mean that a mere zeal can make you a good presenter. There are some techniques every trainer should be aware of.
These styles would generally remain more or less common and thereby facilitate towards the success of a training session.
Let's begin knowing about these chronologically.
Audience: It is mandatory to understand the audience in terms of their abilities and knowledge level.
Knowing the educational background, age and relevant experience of your trainees lets you mould content as per requirement. This proves a great step towards the success of the session.
Objectives: Each trainer must know what they want to achieve from the training program.
It is more likely that this understanding comes out via the training need analysis that is conducted before the commencement of the program. This helps the instructor then concentrate on the aim and once again design content in a similar manner.
Resources: By far, no trainer forgets managing resources before the beginning of any session. More commonly the first thing thought of is the training room; however there are other things too like equipment, hardware, communication facilities, pencils, pens etc.
Subject matter: Subject matter also needs to be carefully evaluated. An instructor needs to know the scope of the program, as well as its nature, i.
e. whether it is practical or theoretical. A trainer should study in advance about the extent of hands-on training required - something like role plays etc.
Sequencing: This element often becomes problematic for trainers.
There can be various ways of arranging topics; however selection is generally tough. This decision can more easily come out when one studies the training requirement in detail.
Relation-based arrangement is a common way of sequencing where subjects are kept in an order and each is related to the next.
When students see association of one topic with another, the interest rises and thus contributes to the success of the class.
Other technique adopted by trainers, is the simple to difficult method.
When users are first acquainted with easy subjects, their confidence on their own capability increases.
It is often observed that with this style, students grasp complex topics far more easily than a situation when it would have been downloaded to them at the first instance.
Familiar to unknown comes next in the list as a brilliant method of training. Candidates have been seen enjoying the training session when topics already known are discussed with them at the start of the session.
When the presenter later moves to the unknown subjects, students are able to link topics with one another that increases their absorption percentage.
All the above methods are successful in their own ways.
It rather depends on the trainer's intellect that which technique will bring success for the training session.
The subject matter of the training is also a major factor that decides for the correct technique.
Overall, training is not something as easy as it looks.
It is rather an art that needs in-depth focus and understanding as here you are not doing something for yourself but for others. And it is widely known that convincing others is anyways a big deal!
